Nexperia and Tata Electronics Establish Strategic Partnership to Strengthen India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

Nexperia and Tata Electronics have announced a strategic partnership covering semiconductor wafer manufacturing, assembly and testing, technology collaboration, and ecosystem development. The agreement establishes a framework for long-term cooperation across multiple stages of the semiconductor value chain, supporting the growth strategies of both companies while contributing to the development of a globally competitive semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.
The partnership will focus on three key areas:
1. Front-End Wafer Manufacturing
2. Back-End Assembly and Testing
3. Technology and Ecosystem Development
As part of their front-end manufacturing collaboration, Nexperia and Tata Electronics are laying the groundwork for the production of Nexperia’s MOSFET portfolio at Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300 mm semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat. The facility is expected to become an important part of India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure.
The companies will also cooperate on the assembly and testing of Nexperia’s discrete semiconductor products at Tata Electronics’ semiconductor facility in Jagiroad, Assam. By combining their respective manufacturing and technical capabilities, the two companies aim to create a flexible and scalable production model that can strengthen supply chain resilience and support Nexperia’s long-term manufacturing requirements.
Stefan Tilger, Interim CEO of Nexperia, said:
"Our collaboration with Tata Electronics brings together complementary strengths in technology, manufacturing and innovation, while also contributing to the broader development of semiconductor capabilities in India. This framework creates new opportunities for cooperation and reinforces our commitment to serving customers through a resilient and globally balanced manufacturing network."
The partnership extends beyond manufacturing activities. Nexperia and Tata Electronics are also exploring broader cooperation in technology development, research and ecosystem building. Nexperia’s expertise in discrete, power and analog semiconductor technologies will be combined with Tata Electronics’ expanding manufacturing capabilities to accelerate innovation and create long-term value for customers worldwide.
Achim Kempe, Chief Operating Officer of Nexperia, said:
"This collaboration goes well beyond manufacturing. By combining Nexperia’s semiconductor expertise with Tata Electronics’ growing manufacturing capabilities, we are establishing a long-term partnership designed to support innovation, growth and supply chain resilience across the semiconductor value chain. We believe this cooperation will provide a strong foundation for future manufacturing, technology development and ecosystem expansion, ultimately benefiting customers around the world."
Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, said:
"We are pleased to partner with Nexperia to manufacture its products at our semiconductor facilities in Dholera and Jagiroad. This comprehensive collaboration across the semiconductor manufacturing value chain represents another important step in Tata Electronics’ efforts to establish a globally competitive and integrated semiconductor ecosystem in India. It also aligns with the growing technological and trade relationship between India and the European Union. As we work to strengthen semiconductor supply chains and encourage innovation, partnerships such as this can create new opportunities for industrial cooperation, technology development and long-term economic growth."*
For Tata Electronics, the agreement represents another milestone in its efforts to build a world-class semiconductor ecosystem in India. By bringing together advanced manufacturing capabilities, semiconductor expertise and access to global markets, the partnership further supports India’s emergence as an important semiconductor hub within global value chains.
Tata Electronics is currently developing India’s first commercial semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, as well as the country’s first indigenous semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Jagiroad, Assam. The company has committed a combined investment of approximately $14 billion to these projects, with the facilities intended to serve customers across a range of critical global industries.
Demand for semiconductors continues to increase across automotive, industrial, consumer electronics, energy, communications and infrastructure applications. Against this backdrop, Nexperia and Tata Electronics see expanded manufacturing capacity and geographically diversified supply chains as increasingly important. Their new partnership brings together capabilities across the semiconductor value chain and establishes a foundation for future cooperation, helping support a more resilient and scalable semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.
