Infineon Becomes the Global Leader in the Microcontroller Market, Strengthening Its Position with Innovation and Growth
Andreas Urschitz, Chief Marketing Officer and Management Board Member at Infineon, stated: “We have strengthened our market position, demonstrating that our outstanding product portfolio, software solutions, and user-friendly development tools exceed customer expectations. Over the past decade, we have consistently outpaced the market by delivering powerful and efficient system solutions that are at the core of innovations driving decarbonization and digitalization.”
Infineon has been at the forefront of the industry for several years. Since 2015, its microcontroller business has grown at an average annual rate of 13.0%, significantly outpacing the overall market’s 4.0% growth per year. In 2023, Infineon became the global leader in the automotive microcontroller segment for the first time. Now, it has achieved the same distinction across the entire microcontroller market, covering all end-use applications. According to Omdia, the total global microcontroller market was valued at $22.4 billion in 2024, down from $28 billion in 2023.
Microcontrollers serve as the "brains" behind a wide range of applications—from automotive systems that enhance vehicle safety, efficiency, and intelligence to IoT devices that shape how we live, work, and connect, as well as industrial machinery that boosts productivity. Infineon’s comprehensive microcontroller portfolio caters to these needs through established product lines such as AURIX™, TRAVEO™, PSOC™, XMC™, and secure microcontrollers.
At Embedded World 2025, one of the leading international trade fairs for embedded systems technology, Infineon will showcase both its current offerings and an ambitious innovation roadmap. Among the highlights is the introduction of a new AURIX automotive microcontroller series based on RISC-V, set to launch in the coming years. This addition will complement Infineon’s existing portfolio, which includes TriCore™- and Arm®-based solutions. Infineon is the first semiconductor company to announce a RISC-V-based microcontroller specifically designed for the automotive market, addressing the growing computational demands of software-defined vehicles.
Furthermore, Infineon will unveil several innovations within its versatile PSOC portfolio. These include advancements in the new PSOC Control series for power and motor control, the AI-enabled PSOC Edge series optimized for CRA-ready edge AI applications, and enhancements to the PSOC 4 microcontroller family. By integrating leading capacitive sensing technology with new inductive and liquid sensing capabilities within a single MCU, Infineon is enabling new use cases and higher levels of integration.
